![]() ![]() Our roots go back to disaster relief and helping people who are facing difficult circumstances, and I can see the Crush Light working really well in those situations, as an emergency prepardness product, as well. So it works great for camping, but also looks good at a backyard party. One of our goals for the light was for it to be versatile. The Crush Light works for a lot of different situations. Having them separate works great in so many applications, but sometimes you want all the elements in one product that you can just toss in a bag or your pocket and be ready for anything. When we came up with the idea for the Crush Light, we wanted a way to take all the things that Goal Zero does so well - solar, battery, and light - and bring them together into one tiny package that you can put in your pocket and take with you. WHAT WAS THE GOAL IN CREATING THE CRUSH LIGHT? In the following video and interview, Head of Product Innovation and light enthusiast Norm Krantz shares where the idea for this crushable lantern came from and divulges a few secrets for how to make the most of your Crush Light experience. With 60 lumens of light, a built-in solar panel, and the ability to collapse down to half of an inch, the Crush Light is made to be the ultimate lightweight adventure companion. With our latest lighting offering, we've added another useful feature to our lineup: collapsiblity. Over the years, we've created portable lanterns and lights designed to hang, pack, and strap to everything from backpacks to tents to vehicles. In our From the Engineers series, we get a behind-the-scenes look at the development of our portable power, solar, and lighting products, straight from the engineers who design them. The answer is Upway, the number one certified electric bike provider and an official partner to many of the aforementioned brands. Electric bikes are all over the road these days, and there are many brands either venturing into the technology, to launch their own versions of the sustainable transportation option or reiterating existing and traditional designs. The Crush Light comes with a removable handle that allows it to be hung from the ceiling of a tent or the branch of a tree. In fact, it can easily be hung on the outside of a pack to collect sunlight throughout a day of hiking. This allows the body to serve as a diffuser, helping to spread the light out over a wider area, while not taking up excess space in a backpack. 6 inches thick, although it expands to nearly 4 inches when fully opened. ![]() It has been designed in such a way that the body functions a bit like an accordion, collapsing in on itself to save space inside a backpack. The main body of the lantern is made from a flexible rubber material that is durable, yet lightweight. One of the other innovative features of the Crush Light is its ability to collapse down for easy storage and transport. Goal Zero says that its Nomad 7 Plus solar panel, which is sold separately, will speed that process along, replenishing the charge in about 2.5 hours. The lantern also includes a small solar panel integrated directly into its design, which can fully recharge the battery in about 20 hours. ![]() The Crush Light’s onboard battery can power it for up to 35 hours on its lowest setting and requires just 2.5 hours to recharge using the included USB cable.
